Job Chapter 33 ESV

Elihu offereth himself instead of God to reason with Job in sincerity without terrifying him: 8he blameth him for insisting so much upon his innocence, and for his complaints against God, who is not accountable to man for his doings. 14God instructeth and calleth man to repentance by night visions, 19by afflictions, 23and by the agency of his ministers. 31Elihu demandeth Job's further attention.
“But now, hear my speech, O Job, and listen to all my words.
Behold, I 1open my mouth; the tongue in my mouth speaks.
My words declare the uprightness of my heart, and what my lips know they speak sincerely.
1The Spirit of God has made me, and 2the breath of the Almighty gives me life.
1Answer me, if you can; 2set your words in order before me; take your stand.
Behold, I am toward God as you are; I too was pinched off from a piece of 1clay.
Behold, no 1fear of me need terrify you; my 2pressure will not be heavy upon you.
“Surely you have spoken in my ears, and I have heard the sound of your words.
You say, ‘I am 1pure, without 2transgression; I am clean, and there is no iniquity in me.
Behold, he finds occasions against me, he 1counts me as his enemy,
he 1puts my feet in the stocks and 2watches all my paths.’
“Behold, in this you are not right. I will answer you, for God is greater than man.
Why do you 1contend against him, saying, ‘He 2will answer none of man'sa words’?b
For God 1speaks in one way, 2and in two, though man 3does not perceive it.
In 1a dream, in 2a vision of 3the night, when 4deep sleep falls on men, while they slumber on their beds,
then he 1opens the ears of men and terrifiesa them with warnings,
that he may turn man aside from his 1deed and conceal pride from a man;
he keeps back his soul from the pit, his life from 1perishing by the sword.
“Man is also rebuked with pain on his bed and with continual strife in his 1bones,
so that his 1life loathes bread, and his appetite 2the choicest food.
His flesh is so wasted away that it cannot be seen, and his bones that were not seen 1stick out.
His soul draws near 1the pit, and his life to 2those who bring death.
If there be for him 1an angel, 2a mediator, 3one of the thousand, to declare to man what is 4right for him,
and he is merciful to him, and says, ‘Deliver him from going down into the pit; I have found 1a ransom;
let his flesh 1become fresh with youth; let him return to the days of his youthful vigor’;
then mana 1prays to God, and he accepts him; he 2sees his face with a shout of joy, and he 3restores to man his righteousness.
He sings before men and says: ‘I 1sinned and perverted what was right, and it was not repaid to me.
He has redeemed my 1soul from going down 2into the pit, and my life shall 3look upon the light.’
“Behold, God does all these things, twice, 1three times, with a man,
to bring back his soul from the pit, that he may be lighted with 1the light of life.
Pay attention, O Job, listen to me; be silent, and I will speak.
If you have any words, 1answer me; 2speak, for I desire to justify you.
If not, 1listen to me; be silent, and I will teach you wisdom.”
