Psalms 102

Psalm 102 ESV

The prophet complaineth bitterly of his afflicted case: 12he taketh comfort in the eternity and mercy of God. 18The mercies of God are worthy to be recorded. 23The prophet, sensible of his own weakness, resteth his hope on the unchangeable nature of God.
A Prayer of one afflicted, when he is 1faint and 2pours out his complaint before the Lord.
1Hear my prayer, O Lord; let my cry 2come to you!
1Do not hide your face from me in 2the day of my distress! 3Incline your ear to me; 4answer me speedily 5in the day when I call!
For my days 1pass away like smoke, and my 2bones burn like a furnace.
My heart is 1struck down like grass and 2has withered; I 3forget to eat my bread.
Because of my loud groaning my 1bones cling to my flesh.
I am like 1a desert owl of the wilderness, like an owla of the waste places;
I 1lie awake; I am like a lonely sparrow on the housetop.
All the day my enemies taunt me; those who 1deride me 2use my name for a curse.
For I eat ashes like bread and 1mingle tears with my drink,
because of your indignation and anger; for you have 1taken me up and 2thrown me down.
My days are like 1an evening shadow; I 2wither away like grass.
But you, O Lord, are 1enthroned forever; you 2are remembered throughout all generations.
You will 1arise and have 2pity on Zion; it is the time to favor her; 3the appointed time has come.
For your servants hold her 1stones dear and have pity on her dust.
Nations will 1fear the name of the Lord, and all 2the kings of the earth will fear your glory.
For the Lord 1builds up Zion; he 2appears in his glory;
he 1regards the prayer of the destitute and does not despise their prayer.
Let this be 1recorded for 2a generation to come, so that 3a people yet to be created may praise the Lord:
that he 1looked down from his holy height; from heaven the Lord looked at the earth,
to hear 1the groans of the prisoners, to set free 2those who were doomed to die,
that they may 1declare in Zion the name of the Lord, and in Jerusalem his praise,
when 1peoples gather together, and kingdoms, to worship the Lord.
He has broken my strength in midcourse; he 1has shortened my days.
“O my God,” 1I say, “take me not away in the midst of my days— 2you whose years endure throughout all generations!”
1Of old you laid the foundation of the earth, and 2the heavens are the work of your hands.
1They will perish, but 2you will remain; they will all wear out like a garment. You will change them like a robe, and they will pass away,
but 1you are the same, and your years have no end.
1The children of your servants 2shall dwell secure; 3their offspring shall be established before you.
