Psalms 109

Psalm 109 ESV

David complaining of the slanders and ingratitude of his enemies devoteth them to destruction; 21complaining of his own misery he prayeth for help; 30he promiseth thankfulness.
To the choirmaster. A Psalm of David.
1Be not silent, O 2God of my praise!
For wicked and 1deceitful mouths are opened against me, speaking against me with lying tongues.
They encircle me with words of hate, and attack me 1without cause.
In return for my love they 1accuse me, but I 2give myself to prayer.a
So they 1reward me evil for good, and hatred for my love.
1Appoint a wicked man 2against him; let an accuser stand 3at his right hand.
When he is tried, let him come forth guilty; let his 1prayer be counted as sin!
May his 1days be few; may 2another take his 3office!
May his 1children be fatherless and his wife a widow!
May his children 1wander about and beg, 2seeking food far from the ruins they inhabit!
May 1the creditor seize all that he has; may 2strangers plunder the fruits of his toil!
Let there be none to 1extend kindness to him, nor any to 2pity his fatherless children!
May his 1posterity be cut off; may his 2name be blotted out in the second generation!
May 1the iniquity of his fathers be remembered before the Lord, and let not the sin of his mother be 2blotted out!
1Let them be before the Lord continually, that he may 2cut off the memory of them from the earth!
For he did not remember to show kindness, but pursued 1the poor and needy and 2the brokenhearted, to put them to death.
1He loved to curse; let curses comea upon him! He did not delight in blessing; may it be farb from him!
He 1clothed himself with cursing as his coat; may it 2soaka into his body like water, like oil into his bones!
May it be like a garment that he wraps around him, like a belt that he puts on every day!
May this be the reward of my 1accusers from the Lord, of those who speak evil against my life!
But you, O God my Lord, deal on my behalf 1for your name's sake; because your 2steadfast love is good, deliver me!
For I am 1poor and needy, and my heart is stricken within me.
I am gone like 1a shadow at evening; I am 2shaken off like a locust.
My knees are weak 1through fasting; my 2body has become gaunt, with no fat.
I am 1an object of scorn to my accusers; when they see me, they 2wag their heads.
1Help me, O Lord my God! Save me according to your steadfast love!
Let them 1know that this is your hand; you, O Lord, have done it!
1Let them curse, but you will bless! They arise and are put to shame, but 2your servant will be glad!
May my accusers be 1clothed with dishonor; may they 2be wrapped in their own shame as in a cloak!
With my mouth I will give great thanks to the Lord; I will 1praise him in the midst of the throng.
For he stands 1at the right hand of the needy one, to save him from those who condemn his soul to death.
