Psalms 22

Psalm 22 ESV

David complaineth and prayeth as one sorely distressed: 22he promiseth public thanksgiving and praise for mercy shewn him.
To the choirmaster: according to The Doe of the Dawn. A Psalm of David.
1My God, my God, why have you forsaken me? Why are you so 2far from saving me, from the words of my 3groaning?
O my God, I cry by 1day, but you do not answer, and by night, but I find no rest.
Yet you are 1holy, 2enthroned on 3the praisesa of Israel.
In you our fathers trusted; they trusted, and you delivered them.
To you they 1cried and were rescued; in you they 2trusted and were not put to shame.
But I am 1a worm and not a man, 2scorned by mankind and 3despised by the people.
All who see me 1mock me; they make mouths at me; they 2wag their heads;
1“He trusts in the Lord; let him 2deliver him; let him rescue him, for he 3delights in him!”
Yet you are he who 1took me from the womb; you made me trust you at my mother's breasts.
On you was I cast from my birth, and from 1my mother's womb you have been my God.
Be not 1far from me, for trouble is near, and there is 2none to help.
Many bulls encompass me; 1strong bulls of 2Bashan surround me;
they 1open wide their mouths at me, like a ravening and roaring lion.
I am 1poured out like water, and all my bones are 2out of joint; my 3heart is like 4wax; it is melted within my breast;
my strength is 1dried up like a potsherd, and my 2tongue sticks to my jaws; you lay me in the dust of death.
For 1dogs encompass me; a company of evildoers 2encircles me; they have 3pierced my hands and feeta
I can count all my bones— they 1stare and gloat over me;
1they divide my garments among them, and for my clothing they cast lots.
But you, O Lord, 1do not be far off! O you my help, 2come quickly to my aid!
Deliver my soul from the sword, my precious life from the power of 1the dog!
Save me from 1the mouth of the lion! You have rescueda me from the horns of 2the wild oxen!
1I will tell of your name to my 2brothers; in the midst of the congregation I will praise you:
You who 1fear the Lord, praise him! All you offspring of Jacob, 2glorify him, and stand in awe of him, all you offspring of Israel!
For he has not despised or abhorred the affliction of 1the afflicted, and he has not 2hidden his face from him, but has heard, when he 3cried to him.
From you comes my praise in the great 1congregation; my 2vows I will 3perform before those who fear him.
1The afflicteda shall 2eat and be satisfied; those who seek him shall praise the Lord! May your hearts 3live forever!
All 1the ends of the earth shall remember and turn to the Lord, and all 2the families of the nations shall worship before you.
For 1kingship belongs to the Lord, and he rules over the nations.
All 1the prosperous of the earth eat and worship; before him shall 2bow all who go down to the dust, even the one who could not 3keep himself alive.
Posterity shall serve him; it shall be told of the Lord to the coming 1generation;
they shall 1come and proclaim his righteousness to a people yet 2unborn, that he has done it.
