Psalms 68

Psalm 68 ESV

A prayer at the removing of the ark. 4An exhortation to praise God for his mercies, 7for his former care of the church, 19and daily providence over it. 20The church hath confidence in his future protection. 24The magnificent pomp of bringing up the ark. 28A prayer for the confirmation of God's goodness to his church. 32An exhortation to all kingdoms to praise the God of Israel.
To the choirmaster. A Psalm of David. A Song.
1God shall arise, his enemies shall be 2scattered; and those who hate him shall flee before him!
As 1smoke is driven away, so you shall drive them away; 2as wax melts before fire, so the wicked shall perish before God!
But 1the righteous shall be glad; they shall exult before God; they shall be jubilant with joy!
Sing to God, 1sing praises to his name; 2lift up a song to him who 3rides through 4the deserts; his name is 5the Lord; exult before him!
1Father of the fatherless and 2protector of widows is God in his holy habitation.
God 1settles the solitary in a home; he 2leads out the prisoners to prosperity, but 3the rebellious dwell in 4a parched land.
O God, when you 1went out before your people, 2when you marched through 3the wilderness, Selah
1the earth quaked, the heavens poured down rain, before God, the One of Sinai, before God,a the God of Israel.
1Rain in abundance, O God, you shed abroad; you restored your inheritance as it languished;
your flocka found a dwelling in it; in your goodness, O God, you 1provided for the needy.
The Lord gives 1the word; 2the women who announce the news are a great host:
1“The kings of the armies—they flee, they flee!” The women at home 2divide the spoil—
though you men lie among 1the sheepfolds— the wings of a dove covered with silver, its pinions with shimmering gold.
When the Almighty scatters kings there, let snow fall on 1Zalmon.
O mountain of God, mountain of Bashan; O many-peakeda mountain, mountain of Bashan!
Why do you look with hatred, O many-peaked mountain, at the mount that God 1desired for his abode, yes, where the Lord will dwell forever?
1The chariots of God are twice ten thousand, thousands upon thousands; the Lord is among them; Sinai is now in the sanctuary.
1You ascended on high, 2leading a host of captives in your train and 3receiving gifts among men, even among 4the rebellious, 5that the Lord God may dwell there.
Blessed be the Lord, who daily 1bears us up; God is our salvation. Selah
Our God is a God of salvation, 1and to God, the Lord, belong deliverances from death.
1But God will strike the heads of his enemies, the hairy crown of him who walks in his guilty ways.
The Lord said, “I will bring them back 1from Bashan, 2I will bring them back from the depths of the sea,
that you may 1strike your feet in their blood, that 2the tongues of your dogs may have their portion from the foe.”
Your procession isa seen, O God, the procession of my God, my King, into the sanctuary—
1the singers in front, 2the musicians last, between them 3virgins playing tambourines:
1“Bless God in the great congregation, the Lord, O youa who are of 2Israel's fountain!”
There is 1Benjamin, the least of them, in the lead, the princes of Judah in their throng, the princes of 2Zebulun, the princes of Naphtali.
1Summon your power, O God,a the power, O God, by which you have worked for us.
Because of your temple at Jerusalem kings shall 1bear gifts to you.
Rebuke 1the beasts that dwell among the reeds, the herd of 2bulls with the calves of the peoples. 3Trample underfoot those who lust after tribute; scatter the peoples who delight in war.a
Nobles shall come from 1Egypt; 2Cush shall hasten to 3stretch out her hands to God.
1O kingdoms of the earth, sing to God; sing praises to the Lord, Selah
to him 1who rides in 2the heavens, the ancient heavens; behold, he 3sends out his voice, his mighty voice.
1Ascribe power to God, whose majesty is over Israel, and whose 2power is in 3the skies.
1Awesome is God from hisa 2sanctuary; the God of Israel—he is the one who gives 3power and strength to his people. Blessed be God!
