Psalms 81

Psalm 81 ESV

An exhortation to a solemn praising of God. 4God challengeth that duty by reason of his benefits. 8God, exhorting his people to obedience, complaineth of their disobedience, which proveth their own hurt.
To the choirmaster: according to 1The Gittith.a Of 2Asaph.
1Sing aloud to God our strength; 2shout for joy to the God of Jacob!
Raise a song; sound 1the tambourine, 2the sweet lyre with 3the harp.
Blow the trumpet at 1the new moon, at the full moon, on our feast day.
For it is a statute for Israel, a rulea of the God of Jacob.
He made it 1a decree in 2Joseph when he 3went out overa the land of Egypt. 4I hear a language 5I had not known:
“I 1relieved youra shoulder of 2the burden; your hands were freed from the basket.
In distress you 1called, and I delivered you; I 2answered you in the secret place of thunder; I 3tested you at the waters of Meribah. Selah
1Hear, O my people, while I admonish you! O Israel, if you would but listen to me!
There shall be no 1strange god among you; you shall not bow down to a 2foreign god.
1I am the Lord your God, who brought you up out of the land of Egypt. 2Open your mouth wide, and I will fill it.
“But my people did not listen to my voice; Israel 1would not submit to me.
So I 1gave them over to their 2stubborn hearts, to follow their own 3counsels.
1Oh, that my people would listen to me, that Israel would 2walk in my ways!
I would soon subdue their enemies and 1turn my hand against their foes.
Those who hate the Lord would 1cringe toward him, and their fate would last forever.
But he would feed youa with 1the finest of the wheat, and with 2honey from the rock I would satisfy you.”
