Psalms 83

Psalm 83 ESV

The Psalmist complaineth to God of a powerful confederacy among the enemies of Israel: 9he prayeth against them.
A Song. A Psalm of 1Asaph.
O God, do not keep silence; 1do not hold your peace or be still, O God!
For behold, your enemies 1make an uproar; those who hate you have 2raised their heads.
They lay 1crafty plans against your people; they consult together against your 2treasured ones.
They say, “Come, 1let us wipe them out as a nation; let the name of Israel be remembered no more!”
For they conspire with one accord; against you they make a covenant—
the tents of 1Edom and 2the Ishmaelites, 3Moab and 4the Hagrites,
1Gebal and 2Ammon and 3Amalek, 4Philistia with the inhabitants of 5Tyre;
1Asshur also has joined them; they are the strong arm of 2the children of Lot. Selah
Do to them as you did to 1Midian, as to 2Sisera and Jabin at 3the river Kishon,
who were destroyed at 1En-dor, who became 2dung for the ground.
Make their nobles like 1Oreb and Zeeb, all their princes like 2Zebah and Zalmunna,
who said, 1“Let us take possession for ourselves of the pastures of God.”
O my God, make them like 1whirling dust,a like 2chaff before the wind.
As 1fire consumes the forest, as the flame 2sets the mountains ablaze,
so may you pursue them 1with your tempest and terrify them with your hurricane!
1Fill their faces with shame, that they may seek your name, O Lord.
Let them be 1put to shame and dismayed forever; let them perish in disgrace,
that they may 1know that you alone, 2whose name is the Lord, are 3the Most High over all the earth.
