Psalms 64

Psalm 64 ESV

1David prayeth for deliverance, complaining of his enemies: 7he promiseth himself to see such an evident destruction of his enemies, that the righteous shall rejoice at it.
To the choirmaster. A Psalm of David.
1 Hear my voice, O God, in my 1complaint; preserve my life from dread of the enemy.
2 Hide me from 1the secret plots of the wicked, from the throng of evildoers,
3 who 1whet their tongues like swords, who 2aim bitter words like arrows,
4 shooting from 1ambush at the blameless, shooting at him suddenly and 2without fear.
5 They 1hold fast to their evil purpose; they talk of 2laying snares secretly, thinking, 3“Who can see them?”
6 They search out injustice, saying, “We have accomplished a diligent search.” For 1the inward mind and heart of a man are deep.
7 1But God shoots his arrow at them; they are wounded suddenly.
8 They are brought to ruin, with their own 1tongues turned against them; all who 2see them will 3wag their heads.
9 Then all mankind 1fears; they 2tell what God has brought about and ponder what he has done.
10 Let 1the righteous one rejoice in the Lord and 2take refuge in him! Let all 3the upright in heart exult!
